Vienna Vacation

Has anyone rented an apartment in Vienna, Austria for vacation? If so, where and how was your experience?

I'm visiting some friends in Vienna and would like to stay in an apartment. I do not know if it would be cheaper than a hotel, but I like the convenience of having an apartment. Wanted know if anyone has done this and what happened and what the experience was. Also, if anyone has tips on cheap accommodation there, that would be greatly appreciated!
