The reaction of my mother to my atheism as possible (all welcome Povše)?

So I've almost reached the decision that I am an atheist, but to soften the blow to my mom I said I'm an agnostic (or I do not know). Now the backstory … all my life, my mother was a Christian, but never actually we went to church at all. Vacation Bible school was about the extent and never talked about religion or anything like that but now that I've said about me, talk it so much more. A day at the mall he saw a man with a shirt that says "body piercing saved my life" and said that (after I explained her, of course) that she wanted one … totally out of character. Even said he would have been easier for her to deal with if he had gone home and told me she was a lesbian. Can someone explain this to me? I'm puzzled.
